Samsung and online grocery delivery service Instacart have established a multi-year partnership with the goal of delivering easy and convenient grocery shopping right to your kitchen. Users will be able to easily replenish their favorite food items using Instacart’s service. The feature will begin with Samsung’s 2025 Bespoke refrigerator models, which include the 32-inch AI Family Hub+ and the new 9-inch AI Home. This connection uses Instacart’s product-matching API in conjunction with Samsung’s in-house AI Vision Inside food identification engine.
AI Vision Inside tracks goods that are running low and keeps an eye on the refrigerator’s contents using cameras mounted inside. Up to 37 frequently bought food items, with an emphasis on fruits and vegetables, can be recognized by the system.
The refrigerator’s screen will offer suggestions through Instacart’s service when items begin to run low. Without ever taking up their phone, users can study these recommendations displayed on the refrigerator screen, add necessary items to their cart, and place an order.
Importantly, the AI just adds goods to the list for consideration; consumers still need to authorize real purchases.
This capability is a big improvement over earlier Samsung models that required users to use the Samsung Food app to manually track their food inventory before sending things to Instacart.
The Samsung Food app is still accessible on refrigerators and smartphones, enabling users to manually manage their shopping lists for those who would rather take a more participatory approach.
The chief product officer at Instacart, Daniel Danker, stated, “Thanks to this partnership with Samsung, the idea of a refrigerator that can replenish itself is no longer just a pipe dream.”
Later this year, Samsung’s AI-powered refrigerators will integrate Instacart with a software update; current AI Family Hub+ devices will also get the update.
