Instagram, a social media platform owned by Meta, has started to copy yet another TikTok feature. The Instagram Reels fast-forward mainly concerns its ability for users to play a reel at 2x speed by long pressing on the right or left side of their screen.
It could be recalled that when TikTok first launched, videos could only be 15 seconds long. However, moving forward, TikTok became more famous among several individuals. And this made it roll out support for longer videos. This is instrumental in introducing TikTok’s option for users to speed up videos, as they have been trained to consume content more quickly.
Instagram Reels also started by allowing users to post videos that are only up to 15 seconds long. Today, users can share videos that are up to 3 minutes long. Like TikTok, Instagram Reels Fast-Forward with the idea of allowing users to watch more content quickly with the new fast-forward option.
The ability to fast-forward a video increases the chances of a viewer reaching the end of longer videos, especially since the idea behind Reels is to offer users quick, bite-sized pieces of entertainment. This can be attributed to concerns that the rise of short-form video content may negatively impact our attention spans and ability to focus on longer-form content.
This Instagram Reels Fast-forward feature will strengthen the user experience by allowing faster content consumption. It is speculated that the similarity between Instagram Reels as a direct clone of TikTok makes it unsurprising that the two platforms now have similar features, specifically the short-form video platform. It’s not the first time Instagram has done so, as its Remix feature is a copy of TikTok’s Duet tool. However, it’s evident that Instagram is delighted to introduce more features for its users, just like it added AI comments a couple of weeks ago.
