Elon Musk’s artificial intelligence company, xAI, is venturing into the public domain with a standalone iOS app for its chatbot, Grok. Previously available only to paying X subscribers, Grok offers a range of AI-powered features designed to enhance user experience.

The Grok app, currently in beta testing across various countries like the U.S., Australia, and India, integrates seamlessly with real-time data from the web and X’s internal resources. This integration empowers Grok to deliver functionalities like text rewriting, long-form summarization, basic Q&A capabilities, and image generation based on user prompts.

The app’s description on the Apple App Store positions Grok as “an AI-powered assistant designed to be maximally truthful, useful, and curious.” It promises users the ability to “get answers to any question, generate striking images, and upload pictures to gain a deeper understanding of your world.”

xAI is expanding Grok’s accessibility beyond X’s paid subscription model. This strategic shift highlights the company’s commitment to making advanced AI technology more widely available. Additionally, a dedicated website, Grok.com, is under development to provide web-based access to the chatbot soon.

Grok’s image generation model stands out for its “photorealistic rendering” capabilities and its relatively permissive approach to user prompts. Unlike some AI tools, Grok allows users to generate images even if they incorporate public figures or copyrighted material.
