Streaming service Plex has been hit by a data breach. Consequently, the platform is calling on users to change their passwords immediately. The streaming service said that an unauthorised third party accessed its customer database containing very sensitive user information.
In a statement regarding the breach, Plex said an unauthorised entity gained access to a restricted portion of its customer information. The affected portion comprises their emails, usernames, passwords, and authentication details. Also, it noted that because the passwords were stored with encryption, “a third party cannot read them.” However, as a precautionary measure, it has advised users to change their account passwords.
You can change your Plex account’s password by visiting https://plex.tv/reset. If you require help, refer to Plex’s guide for resetting passwords. The streamer also suggests selecting “Sign out connected devices after password change” to disconnect from all devices and Plex media servers logged in with the previous password.
If you have been using SSO, go to https://plex.tv/securityhttps://plex.tv/reset and choose “Sign out of all devices.” Moreover, while the streaming platform hasn’t stated this, if you’ve used your previous Plex password on any other site, it could be wise to update it now, too.

Plex experienced a comparable breach in 2022 and provided the same guidelines then. At that moment, their servers became overloaded and could not handle all password alterations immediately.
Regarding the recent attack, Plex states it has “uncovered the method this external party used to access the system,” and is “conducting further assessments to guarantee the security of all our systems, enhancing them to avert future incidents.”
