The 2026 Nigeria Prize for Science and Innovation has officially opened for entries, inviting startups, scientists and innovators to submit breakthroughs in Artificial Intelligence, ICT, and digital technologies. Sponsored by Nigeria LNG Limited (NLNG), the competition remains one of Africa’s most prestigious awards for scientific excellence.
2026 Nigeria Prize for Science and Innovation Retains Theme Used in 2025 Edition
For the 2026 cycle, the theme is “Innovations in Information and Communication Technology (ICT), Artificial Intelligence, and Digital Technologies for Development.” This theme has been retained following a no-winner verdict in 2025, which demonstrates the Prize’s rigorous standards and commitment to finding solutions that show depth and originality.
The 2026 Nigeria Prize for Science and Innovation is specifically seeking innovations that are technically mature and deployable, rather than purely theoretical concepts. Entries must demonstrate scalability and measurable impact, with the capability to drive tangible development outcomes within Nigeria’s economy.
Valued at USD $100,000, the competition is open to scientists and innovators worldwide. It calls for pioneering AI-driven solutions that can enhance systems and improve operational efficiency across critical sectors including energy, healthcare, agriculture, finance, infrastructure, and public services.

Innovators Urged to Submit Works with Real-world Application
NLNG’s General Manager, External Relations and Sustainable Development, Sophia Horsfall, emphasised the growing influence of digital intelligence in reshaping industries. She noted that the Prize continues to champion innovative ideas that are rigorous and capable of shaping long-term national outcomes.
Prof. Barth Nnaji, Chairman of the Advisory Board for the Prize, urged innovators to submit work that moves beyond abstraction to practical application. He stated that entries must be grounded in credible research, inventive, scalable, and capable of delivering measurable results within Nigeria’s development landscape.
The Prize presents a significant funding opportunity and global platform for recognition, particularly for AI founders, deep-tech entrepreneurs, academic researchers, and digital system architects building high-impact solutions.
