Elon Musk’s internet company, Starlink, has informed its Nigerian subscribers of an impending price increase, effective January 27th, 2025. The new Residential Paying Plan will see subscribers pay N75,000 per month, a significant increase from the current N38,000.
This development comes after Starlink suspended a previous price increment announced in September, following a rebuttal from the Nigerian communication commission (NCC) stated that Starlink had not secured approval for the increment, contrary to existing rules.
In a message to its subscribers, Starlink justified the price inco enhance the Starlink network and deliver reliable, high-quality service across Nigeria. The company emphasized its commitment to investing in infrastructure to support and improve the user experience.
The price increase affects various subscription plans, including:
– Standard (Residential): N75,000 per month
– Regional roaming: N167,000 per month
– Global roaming: N717,000 per month
The price increment may be challenging for Nigerian users, given the current economic hardship in the country. It remains to be seen whether users will be willing to accept the new prices or explore alternative internet service providers.
