In a new turn of events, Reddit has sought “greener pastures” for its platform following the recent collaboration with Google Gemini AI. This update contains Reddit-Gemini AI integrations so users can run smoothly and have a smooth experience.
For the record, Reddit Answers is the platform’s conversational AI search tool, and it gets an upgrade through integration with Google Gemini. Reddit secured this partnership about a year after it expanded its deal with Google Cloud. The company initiated this deal to access its Vertex AI platform to build AI agents.
Google and Reddit made the Reddit-Gemini AI integrations known on Wednesday. They explain that incorporating Gemini on Vertex will help improve search relevance and provide quick answers for users.
TechPolyP recalls that Reddit Answers has been in beta since December 2024. Productively, the app allows users to ask questions and receive curated summaries of relevant comments and existing posts. This feature saves users from combing Reddit, surfing posts while running from “pillar to post”, and seeking answers for their queries.
Additionally, the collaboration aims for the Reddit-Gemini AI integrations to keep users on the platform rather than searching for threads on Google. Meanwhile, TechPolyp earlier reported how Reddit enhances user engagement here. This Gemini integration will make Reddit better able to compete with OpenAI. This healthy competition may also make Reddit contend with other generative AI companies that utilize its data to train their chatbots.
TechPolyP discovered that users have had mixed opinions about the feature. Some users compare it to a “knock-off version of Grok AI.” Grok AI is X’s tool that was known to generate information in the past. Some others believe Grok creates misinformation. However, some think it helps provide a concise overview of generalized advice and insights from fellow users.
Reddit Answers is currently available in English on the web and iOS devices in the U.S. This implies that Reddit-Gemini integration is only available in the U.S. However, the company may extend it to other countries for universal usage.
