OnePlus Smartwatches have become formidable competitors in the wearable market with their extensive battery life and flexible monitoring functions. But a crucial health feature has been conspicuously missing from all of its wearable incarnations. I’m talking about menstrual cycle tracking. This feature remains missing in the brand’s recently released and highly improved Watch 2 and the new Watch 3.

OnePlus has never specifically tendered an explanation for this omission. However, a new finding indicates that menstrual cycle tracking might be included in a future software update.

Menstrual Cycle Tracker Arriving on OnePlus Watches

Since many competitors—and even low-cost fitness trackers—already have the menstrual tracking feature, OnePlus Smartwatches’ lack of the feature has been a significant disadvantage for its brands.

This is especially strange because the OnePlus Watch 3 has a temperature sensor, which is a standard feature in wearables that track periods.

Oppo Working on Adding Menstrual Tracking Feature in its Smartwatches

Oppo is reportedly working on a menstrual cycle tracking feature. This was through a hidden coding found in a version of the Oppo OHealth app. The Oppo OHealth is a software that is used by both Oppo and OnePlus Smartwatches.

Although the release of the period tracking feature on Oppo Smartwatches has not been officially confirmed, the fact that it is present in the OHealth app suggests that OnePlus smartwatches may also get it. This finding lends credence to the idea that OnePlus would implement the feature because the two companies share the same app ecosystem. The program code also suggests that OnePlus might improve tracking accuracy by using the Watch 3’s temperature sensor.

Which OnePlus Watch Models Will Get The Menstrual Cycles Tracking Feature?

The OnePlus models that will support tracking menstrual cycles are still unknown. The most probable contender for an update, though, is the OnePlus Watch 3, as it is the only model with an integrated temperature sensor. Period tracking is supported by several wearables that are integrated with temperature sensors. Hopefully, even without a temperature sensor, the OnePlus Watch 2 and Watch 2R might be able to get the menstrual tracking feature as well.

Currently, OnePlus watches may track menstrual cycles through third-party apps. However, these apps can feel unreliable and inconvenient when compared to ‘native solutions’. It is possible that Oppo and OnePlus may soon make menstrual tracking available in some of their models. This is especially likely because OHealth app now has indications of an official period monitoring capability.
