The Norwegian robotics startup 1X has unveiled the NEO Gamma, a bipedal humanoid robot powered by AI. The company says that the robot can carry out a variety of household tasks like vacuuming, washing windows, and transporting laundry.
Although there have been some significant advancements in robotics recently, such as the world’s fastest bipedal robot, STAR1, and a bipedal robot known for its smooth walking, SE01, the offers have been lacking in terms of practicality. That is all set to change, though, thanks to Norwegian robotics company 1X and its new invention.
The NEO Gamma is a humanoid butler that can do a variety of household tasks like vacuuming, cleaning, and even pouring tea.
The company goes further by collaborating with Shima Seiki, a Japanese knitting machine maker, to develop a smooth and soft suit that hides the robot’s metal body. This suit gives it a more human appearance. 1X also added that the NEO Gamma can execute several tasks, such as sitting in a chair, putting crooked objects about the house, pouring tea in a cup, and squatting down to pick things up off the ground.
Design And Features
1X used motion capture technology to program the robot to perform various actions exactly like a human. This is good for aesthetics. Furthermore, noise is a major consideration if you plan to have a robotic friend in your home, thus 1X had to make sure the NEO Gamma was as silent as possible. The humanoid robot’s movements only produce 10 Db, which is roughly as silent as a modern refrigerator.
The 1X can work quite autonomously due to its AI integration. It responds quickly to commands from its human users due to the integration of four microphones strategically placed on the robot to capture voice commands. It can also answer calls, engage in basic dialogue, and play music through a pelvic speaker.

“In the near future, we will all have household robots but for humanoid robots to truly become part of everyday life, they must be developed together with humans – they cannot be developed alone. We look forward to sharing more details on NEO Gamma soon,” 1X CEO, Bernd Bornig stated.
It will be curious to see how many people will accept robotic butlers like the NEO Gamma in their homes in the wake of the recent controversy involving one of China’s most well-known humanoid robots that seemed to act aggressively and malfunction around people.
