Tech companies worldwide are jostling to integrate AI into their products and services. Netflix is taking the same path as the company is currently developing an AI search feature that would enable viewers to search for content by using keywords based on their mood.

According to reports, Netflix is developing a new artificial intelligence (AI) feature. The report revealed that the streaming giant has started testing an AI-powered search engine that will take the place of the platform’s current search feature. The new search feature will enable users to search for content with greater precision.

The new feature is reportedly powered by OpenAI’s AI models. It is reportedly accessible to a limited number of users in Australia and New Zealand, and Netflix may add other areas in the coming months. The feature is designed to help users find specific titles as well as discover new content. Netflix told the magazine that the new feature is powered by OpenAI’s AI models. Although it didn’t mention the specific model being used.

Netflix AI Search With Precision

According to the reports, the new tool will enable users to search for movies and television series with greater precision. For instance, a user could search for “movies with a happy beginning and a sad ending.” The streaming service will then suggest items from its library. A limited number of users are presently testing the feature in Australia and New Zealand. Netflix’s AI search is limited to its iOS app at this time.

Netflix’s spokesperson MoMo Zhou who spoke to The Verge didn’t make any disclosure about the new feature when asked. He said the feature is available only on the Netflix iOS app for now.

The AI search feature is reportedly being added by the streaming platform in response to users’ demands. Netflix also intends to unlock the AI search feature in several foreign countries. It is expected that this feature will be formally launched in the coming weeks or months.

Netflix has started experimenting with AI more intensely to enhance the service and help in filmmaking. Netflix added support for multilingual audio to its TV app earlier this month. This will enable users to see films and television series in all available languages.
