Tech giant, Meta is implementing new guidelines for its Meta Verified to help curb the spate of impersonators and scams that don’t seem to be slowing down.

Facebook recently updated its home page with some new guidelines. It includes more information about Meta Verified and the requirements for eligibility. One of the newly introduced guidelines says: A creator who wishes to be Meta Verified must be cautious about how many times they make modifications to accounts in a given time frame before applying for this badge. This includes changes to the one’s username, location and profile photo. It also includes changes to account types, according to the revised verification requirements.

This implies that the company will be rejecting many applications for the verification badge if the accounts are found to have too many alterations within a short period of time. These new guidelines aim to stop scammers who use counterfeit accounts to create a false impression on Facebook. The endgame of these scammers is often to fleece unsuspecting social media users.

Meta shared how it doesn’t have an abundance of solutions to tackle this problem. However, it hopes that introducing such a regulation will make it more difficult for impersonators to succeed. This has been planned for some time, with several insinuations given by the company, stating how essential it is.

Is The Meta Verified Badge Still Worth It?

Elon Musk’s X is at the forefront of the Verified Badge controversy. Many random profiles on X are now displaying the blue verification tick since it was offered for sale to any payer. Many believe that the Meta Verification badge lost its value and credibility since Meta made it available to everyone for purchase. They believe it’s more about enriching Elon Musk than it is about building confidence since neither consumers nor brands have any incentive to buy the blue tick.

However, there is no denying that Meta Verified and X Premium offer advantages including increased reach, exposure, and boosts. Although there are plenty of reasons to pay, the verification badge isn’t as reputable or significant as it formerly was.

Meta is adding more features to arrest the spate of impersonations. Many questionable pages can now use the once-revered badge to trick and scam users. Despite several challenges, the tech giant continues to rake in massive revenue and has kept going strong.
