Intel has surprised the tech community by releasing an updated 0x114 BIOS microcode for its Z890 motherboards, addressing performance issues with the new Arrow Lake-S desktop CPUs. The update is expected to patch the problems that have plagued the Core Ultra 200S desktop CPUs, which have been experiencing significantly lower performance than advertised.

Motherboard Manufacturers Quickly Release Updated BIOS Versions

Several motherboard manufacturers, including ASUS, ASRock, and Gigabyte, have already released their updated BIOS versions incorporating the new microcode. The updated BIOS versions are currently in beta stages and not publicly available, but links to the updates have been shared by @9550pro and @harukaze5719.

Intel has identified five root causes of the performance degradation, including issues with the PPM configuration, APO, and other elements. The company claims that resolving these issues can result in double-digit performance gains. While it’s unclear whether the updated microcode will bring the same level of improvement to consumer systems, the updates are expected to provide noticeable performance enhancements.

The release of the updated 0x114 BIOS microcode is a welcome development for Intel users who have been experiencing performance issues with their Arrow Lake-S desktop CPUs. As the updates become more widely available, users can expect to see improvements in their system’s performance.
