If you’re a TV buff in the UK, this is music to your ears. The long-awaited BBC iPlayer is now available on Google TV Streamer. Despite initial technical issues, the streaming device now lets its users watch BBC One and BBC Two and on-demand content.

In the early days of the Google TV streamer’s launch (replacing the Chromecast line), it faced huge criticism due to the absence of BBC iPlayer, an issue it immediately sought to solve. In November 2024, it announced it had enlisted the app. This good news was hitherto shortlived by the device’s technical issues. As the BBC stated, “There is a technical issue, which we are working on with Google.” Thankfully, though, all is a thing of the past now.

The update completes the device, allowing it to market to a wider audience, especially its UK fans. This is because for over a decade, the iPlayer has become a staple, earning its spot, and most of all, free for license fee payers. The app can be installed through the Google App Store for mobile devices.
