The deadline for migration from Fitbit to Google accounts has been extended by Google to February 2, 2026. Current Fitbit users must switch to a Google account to restore their data.

Google will remove all Fitbit account information on February 2, 2026. Following its acquisition of Fitbit in 2021, Google declared in September 2022 that new Fitbit device activation would require a Google account starting in 2023. Current users were given until the beginning of 2025 to make the switch. Google is now offering current Fitbit account holders until February 2, 2026, an additional year’s extension.

Google is sending out emails to notify current Fitbit account holders of this change. It didn’t clearly state that it has added a year to the deadline. It simply stated that users have until February 2, 2026, to switch to a Google account. Additionally, the email states that after this date, Google will no longer save any user data associated with Fitbit accounts.

“Before February 2, 2026, you must convert to a Google account if you wish to keep using Fitbit. You will be unable to continue using the service if you do not switch to a Google Account before the deadline.

Your historical data will not be retained beyond February 2, 2026 (except as needed to comply with laws), and your account and data will be deleted,” the email shared via Reddit stated.

If you still have a Fitbit account and would like to switch, hit your profile symbol in the upper-right area of the Fitbit app to access the “Move Account” option. Doing this activates the process of transferring all of your health data from your Fitbit account to Google.

You Don’t Get Extra Features After Switching To Google

There are no new features or perks that the switch to Google will grant you. However, it makes logging into the Fitbit app a lot easier. Furthermore, all Fitbit wearables introduced since its acquisition by Google including the Pixel Watch 2 and later versions, require a Google account to set up and activate. This makes managing your health data easier since it is streamlined to a single Google account.

Older users and first-generation Pixel Watch owners who are still using their Fitbit accounts will benefit from this extension. Fitbit users should bear in mind that they have until February 2, 2026, to transfer their account to Google unless Google extends this deadline once again. Users risk losing all of their health information if they fail to make the switch.

Numerous users have voiced their dissatisfaction and dismay with the change via Reddit. Some people claim that they feel compelled to give Google access to this data. Concerns were also raised by others that targeted advertisements would use this data. Google has stated previously that this migration has no connection to advertisements.
