Nollywood superstar Funke Akindele has achieved unprecedented success with her latest film, “Everybody Loves Jenifa.” The movie has grossed a record-breaking N783 million within its first 14 days in theaters, cementing its position as the highest-grossing film of the year.

Box Office Milestones

“Everybody Loves Jenifa” has achieved several box office milestones, including:

  • N511 million in just 12 days
  • N107 million on Boxing Day alone, setting a new daily box office record
  • N355.1 million within its first week
  • Over 71,700 viewers by its second weekend, making it the fastest Nollywood production to cross the N500 million mark

A Testament to Nollywood’s Growth

The success of “Everybody Loves Jenifa” caps an extraordinary year for Nollywood, with the industry seeing record-breaking performances from films like “Jagun Jagun,” “Lisabi,” and “Queen Lateefah.” The West African box office reached a milestone achievement of N12 billion in 2024, with Nollywood productions accounting for over 50% of market share.

Global Appeal

The film’s appeal extends beyond Nigerian shores, with “Everybody Loves Jenifa” earning $100,000 during its opening weekend across nine international territories, including the UK, USA, Canada, and Australia. This marks the first time a Nollywood film has achieved such earnings across these regions, setting a new benchmark for global success.

As 2024 comes to a close, Nollywood’s remarkable growth shows no signs of slowing. Box office revenue reached N8.76 billion in the first nine months of the year, a 59% increase from 2023.
