On 18 September 2025, leading ICT professionals, regulators, and corporate executives will gather in Lagos. They will be discussing Africa’s data sovereignty in light of increasing demands for greater localization of tech infrastructure. The summit is organised by Olla Systems in collaboration with Africa Hyperscalers. It is expected to attract more than 300 key decision-makers from corporations, startups, and governmental organisations.
The discussions at the summit will focus on data localisation, infrastructure security. In the fast-evolving digital landscape, African countries, such as Nigeria, South Africa, Kenya, Uganda, Ghana, and the Democratic Republic of Congo, are implementing deeper regulations. They are mandating that organisations store and handle data within their own territories.
Olusola Adenuga, CEO of Olla Systems and conference organiser, stated: “Data sovereignty involves not only the location of data but also who governs it, who gains from it, and how it drives national progress.” Africa must overcome its digital reliance and establish an independent infrastructure that retains our data, resources, and potential.
Furthermore, authorities like the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) have released several new regulations. One of such regulations requires financial institutions, telecom providers, and public agencies to transfer their operations from international cloud services to local platforms.
