China’s Vice-Minister of Education, Wu Yan, emphasized the importance of global cooperation among universities to harness digital intelligence and create a sustainable higher education system.

Speaking at the 2024 Global MOOC and Online Education Conference in London, Wu highlighted China’s focus on applying, cooperating, and sharing digital technologies to integrate education and technology.

The collaboration aims to develop innovative smart and reliable education models, promoting open cooperation and resilience in the higher education sector. The emergence of artificial intelligence marks the beginning of the “smart education” era, transforming the way universities operate.

Some key initiatives already underway include:

-Digital Intelligence International Development Education Alliance (DI-IDEA): A collaboration between Peking University and nearly 30 international universities to promote digital intelligence in education.

Global Digital Intelligence Education Innovation Competition: Encourages universities to develop innovative solutions for smart education.

AI Innovation Action Plan: China’s Ministry of Education plan to enhance AI education, research, and applications in universities by 2030 .

These efforts demonstrate China’s commitment to leading the global transition to smart education, leveraging digital intelligence to improve accessibility, quality, and sustainability in higher education.
