Over time, ChatGPT’s mobile app has become a significant force in the tech space. Since its launch in May 2023, the app for iOS and Android has gathered an impressive $2 billion in global consumer spending. According to Appfigures, this development is roughly thirty times the combined lifetime earnings of rivals like Claude, Copilot, and Grok. Specifically, the numbers highlight how ChatGPT mobile app revenue has surged far beyond expectations, especially from March till now. In addition, the date also reveals how it outruns competitors struggling to keep pace.

In 2025 alone, the app has earned $1.35 billion. This figure significantly represents a 673% increase from $174 million during January to July in 2024. On average, ChatGPT now makes about $193 million per month. This is a sharp rise from $25 million monthly earnings last year. Its nearest competitor, Grok, has generated only $25.6 million so far this year. This puts Grok’s average monthly consumer spending at $3.6 million, which is just 1.9% of ChatGPT’s. In addition, such figures underline the unmatched growth in ChatGPT mobile app revenue.

GPT App Revenue Leaves Rivals Behind

In a significant turn, findings also indicate that other AI chatbots have a considerable amount of ground to cover. Notwithstanding these numbers, which focus on mobile performance, they still reveal a strong lead for ChatGPT. Many AI providers, including OpenAI, also sell subscriptions through their websites and earn from API access. However, mobile stores remain the most visible arena for attracting paying customers. Essentially, this visibility continues to drive ChatGPT mobile app revenue at an extraordinary rate.

Additionally, when xAI’s Grok entered the market in November 2023, it lacked stand-alone iOS and Android apps. Moving forward, users could only access it through the X platform. The iOS app arrived in early January 2025, while the Android version launched on March 4. This delay likely slowed its adoption. In contrast, ChatGPT mobile app revenue benefited from early and consistent availability across both major mobile platforms.

ChatGPT Mobile App Revenue: Geographic Reach and Download Numbers Boost Income

Lifetime spending per download for ChatGPT stands at $2.91 globally. Claude follows at $2.55, Grok at $0.75, and Copilot at just $0.28. In the United States, ChatGPT’s spending per download reaches $10, making it the app’s most significant market at 38% of total revenue. Germany ranks second, contributing 5.3% of lifetime sales. These statistics reveal the geographic spread behind ChatGPT’s mobile app revenue dominance.

Install numbers tell the same story. It is noteworthy that ChatGPT’s app has been downloaded an estimated 690 million times globally. Grok, by comparison, has managed 39.5 million. In 2025 so far, ChatGPT has added 318 million new installs, almost three times its total for the same period last year. India leads in total lifetime downloads with 13.7%, while the U.S. follows at 10.3%. The constant rise in installs keeps pushing ChatGPT mobile app revenue to new records.
