Microsoft Delete Guide on How to Install Windows on Unsupported PCs

Microsoft has pulled down its official instructions on how to install Windows 11 on unsupported devices.

The company initially posted the instructions in the October 2021 support article, when the window 11 started to roll out. The manual gave the users of window 10 a guide on how to upgrade to Window 11 if their PCs didn’t support the OS’s official specs, which requires a TPM 2.0 security related chip.

The guide remained untampered on the Microsoft support article for years. But Neowin recently discovered the instructions had disappeared. This included removing all mention of how users can modify their Windows 10’s registry and allowing them to install Windows 11 as long as the PC supports a TPM 1.2 chip.

According to the internet archives way back machine, it appears like Microsoft removed the guide from the support page in December.

However, the instructions haven’t been lost totally. Users can as well use third-party tools to install Windows 11 on the Windows 10 system.

Microsoft didn’t respond to a request for a comment immediately. But it’s no secret that the company is ending official support for Windows 10 on October 14, which means the OS will no longer receive new updates or security patches.

Instead, the company has been pushing its customers to upgrade to Windows 11. But this could mean buying a new PC if the existing system lacks the hardware specs.

Even though Microsoft hasn’t issued an official guide. It never endorsed that option. Back in October 2021, the company warned that installing Windows 11 on an unsupported PC could lead to system malfunction arising from compatibility problems.

In December, the company published a separate support article that shows it had effectively rescinded the guideline.

“If you install Windows 11 on a device not meeting Windows 11 system requirements, Microsoft recommends you roll back to Windows 10”, the company wrote on a support page about installing the OS on an unsupported system.
