Paystack NFC Card System Transforms Airport Payments

Date:

A leading African-focused payments technology firm, Paystack, has partnered with the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) to unveil the Paystack NFC card system. The idea is to revolutionize airport access fee collection at Lagos and Abuja airports. Launched on August 28, 2025, the innovation introduces a seamless tap-to-pay process that enables drivers to pay gate charges simply by tapping a prepaid card on the terminal. This feature has just one smooth action after ehich the deduction shall take place. Additionally, the barrier lifts eliminate the stress and time often wasted on cash transactions.

Furthermore, the Paystack NFC card system is part of FAAN’s broader campaign branded “Operation Go Cashless.” This innovation targets modernizing airport infrastructure across Nigeria. The move prioritizes efficiency by addressing the long-standing issue of congested queues at entry points. The removal of the need for physical cash transactions allows both passengers and airport staff to benefit from faster movement. Additionally, it provides for more transparency and greater convenience. At its core, this project solidifies the government’s push towards building a cashless economy where technology drives service delivery.

Using Paystack NFC Card System

Moving forward, starting with the Paystack NFC card system is straightforward. Drivers are to either scan a provided QR code or visit a designated FAAN portal to register. Upon entering a phone number, they are to confirm with a one-time password and fund a wallet with a minimum balance of ₦1,000. To make the system more hassle-free, they can instantly link the prepaid card to their profile. Moreover the card is ready for use after the completion of the process. This enables smooth and secure entry at designated airport gates. For many commuters, this change shows a departure from the era of constant cash handling, offering a cleaner and more dependable alternative.

FAAN’s leadership has tied this innovation to a wider automation agenda. According to Managing Director Olubunmi Kuku, only 8% of the agency’s revenue currently comes from non-aeronautical sources. With the deployment of fintech-driven services, such as the Paystack NFC card system, FAAN will diversify its earnings and reduce its reliance on aeronautical charges alone. This expansion includes streamlining parking services, toll operations, and lease agreements. However, a similar digital-first approach supports each of them.

Looking Ahead

This development suggests an avenue for Paystack to leverage the collaboration in providing an opportunity to extend its expertise in powering secure, real-time financial transactions at scale. Through its backend infrastructure, Paystack delivers reliable processing, card support, and system maintenance. The Paystack NFC card system is more than a payment innovation. It serves as a blueprint for Nigeria’s transition towards efficient, accountable, and fully digitized public services.
