On Tuesday, Google announced that it’s ready to launch a new Gmail feature designed to help users manage subscriptions and declutter inboxes. The new “Manage subscriptions” tool, part of Gmail’s broader unsubscribe efforts, is rolling out on the web. The company also plans to release the tool on Android and iOS in select countries.
Users can view and manage subscription emails in one location with this new Gmail unsubscribe tool. Additionally, they can also quickly unsubscribe from senders they no longer want to hear from.
Moving forward, the tool displays active subscriptions, ordered by the most frequent senders. This also takes effect together with the number of emails sent in recent weeks. When you click, a sender allows users to view all related emails.
How the Gmail Unsubscribe Tool Works
If a user opts to unsubscribe, Gmail sends an unsubscribe request on the user’s behalf. “It can be easy to feel overwhelmed by the sheer volume of subscription emails clogging your inbox. In other words, daily deal alerts that are spam, weekly newsletters from blogs you no longer read, promotional emails from retailers you haven’t shopped in years can quickly pile up.” This was what Chris Doan, Gmail’s Director of Product, explained in a blog post.

However, users can access the Gmail unsubscribe tool by selecting “Manage subscriptions.” They can locate this in the top-left navigation bar of the Gmail inbox.
It’s worth noting that this launch wasn’t unexpected, as some users had begun spotting the tool as early as April. In addition, the Gmail unsubscribe tool complements existing inbox-decluttering tools. This is like the one-click unsubscribe feature introduced last year. That tool enables users to unsubscribe from emails with a single button click. The essence of this development is to eliminate the need to scroll to the bottom of a message or visit external websites.
According to Google, the updated feature will start rolling out on the web starting Tuesday. Android and iOS users will begin seeing it on July 14 and July 21, respectively. The rollout may take up to 15 days to reach all users.
The Gmail unsubscribe tool is available to all Google Workspace users. Additionally, it’s also available to Workspace Individual Subscribers and users with a personal Google account accounts.
